More Birthday Cupcakes!

I just love how people are celebrating birthdays with cupcakes rather than cakes these days. It's fun both ways, but with cupcakes, everyone gets their own special masterpiece of love :) These are four dozen cupcakes that I did for a sweet friend's order. Her father turned 90 and we did about five different kinds of cupcakes for the party. Among them, butterscotch cupcake with butterscotch maple cream cheese frosting, dark chocolate chip with ganache and vanilla buttercream, mint and chip, cream cheese vanilla, and white russian. Every cupcake was filled with a sweet surprise of either caramel, cookies and cream whipped cream, ganache or buttercream. Too fun!

Jack's Birthday Cake

This is the crazy, wacky bday cake I made for Jack. It was supposed to be more slanted, but it was my first time trying it, so go figure. Funny how when I actually try to get it slanted, it is straight. The crazy candle are made out of candy. Here are the cousins and my boys crackin' themselves up. We had them over for dinner and bday cake and it was such a treat!

And more pictures of the cake. The inside was a yummy butter chocolate cake with amazing whipped cookies and cream filling. Just scrumptious! I got the book "Whimsical Bakehouse" and had to try every part about this cake. Hope you like it!

Heart Cheesecake

Happy Friday, Sweet Readers!

Just wanted to show you another cheesecake I made for a Valentine's Party we went to (thank you Steve and Julie!). Again, I made the hearts the same way that I made the chocolate stars on the cheesecake for my mom. Just piped them out by hand and painted them with luster dust. The cheesecake was the yummy mocha chip one with a cookie crust covered in chocolate ganache. It was a hit, and worth the calories :)

Cupcake Truffles and a Cupcake Tasting Party!

Hi Sweet Readers!

Thanks for all the kind comments on my blog and FB. You guys are the best and I love sharing my sweet with you. Thanks for coming back and checking in, too. I anticipate you coming and hope to share something new with you each week.

Today I made so many cupcakes that my family and I had to have a "cupcake tasting party" after dinner. When I told my youngest son what we were going to do, he thought I was having a party with my girlfriends. He was thrilled that he got to participate himself. It was fun. We split five different cupcakes and voted for our favorites. Seems my family really has an opinion after all the cupcakes they have tried :) Anyhow, you should try it sometime. Quite the treat...

The photo is of some cupcake truffles that I made for an order for a dear friend. Some were red velvet and some were dark chocolate. If you haven't tried one of these small treasures, you should. They are small, but delicious!!

I don't want to bore you with more Valentine's Day themed goodies, but I have many and just want to share! Stay tuned..hopefully I can get through them before St. Patrick's day because I have some fun planned for that, too :)

POPCORN CUPCAKES!

Hi Sweet Readers~!
I know a few of you like savory over sweet. Well, here ya go! :) I made these "popcorn cupcakes" for my son's birthday. I also brought them to church for a movie night the same night. People were a little confused at first, I think! They are actually mini cupcakes topped with frosting and little popcorn kernels I made by dissecting one small marshmallow in thirds, fanning it out and then gluing it to a whole one with frosting. Not to hard...just a little time consuming when you have to make about 250 individual popcorn kernels! They were fun and my son enjoyed them as did the moviegoers!

Have a great Tuesday (that will no doubt feel like a Monday if your kiddos were off yesterday)!

Cookie Box

Just some cookies I made last week for a church ministry fair. From left to right they are lemon poppyseed, chocolate chip, and lime meltaways. I made little candy stars to fit the theme that was going.

Have a great day! More valentines to come :)

Birthday Cupcakes

I have had some orders for birthdays lately and I love it! It's such a fun way to celebrate! Here are some I made for an 80th birthday and a 40th birthday party. One client requested german chocolate for her hubby, along with chocolate mint and the other was my choice. Such fun!

A Different Kind of Valentine

Hi Sweet Readers! I am back from a trip to visit family in Orange County and am happy to post some pictures of some of the goodies I made last week and some of my adventures in Southern California (think cupcakes and Disneyland :). First, I wanted to show you some fun sugar cookies I made for a friend. Her hubby is a sports fanatic and his fav football team is the Buffalo Bills. She asked if I could make her some sugar cookies for he and his family as her valentine's day gift to him. So here they are! I hope he liked them!

I couldn't help but think how thoughtful she was to do something specifically for him. Sure, he would have liked to eat heart shaped sugar cookies on valentine's day, but she went the extra mile to please him more. Suits her. She is such a great person!

Happy Birthday, Mom! I Love You!

So today is my sweet mom's birthday! Happy Birthday, Mom! I love you very much and was so wanting to bring you something special for your birthday. So this is it!

I found this recipe from the "Whimsical Bakehouse" cookbook and just had to try it. You can't really see it all here, ( I hope to soon post pictures of the inside of the cheesecake), but this is a mocha chip cheesecake with homemade chocolate cookie crust (meaning I actually made chocolate cookies only to break them apart and grind them fine for the buttery crust), covered in decadent (and I mean, decadent) ganache with hand drawn chocolate stars.

I let my boys help me "paint" the stars with gold and silver luster dust and they were thrilled. They did a really great job, actually! Fun, huh? I am liking it, and I hope mom likes it, too!

Red Velvet Monogram and Gift Box

Good Morning!

I wanted to show you one of the gift cuppies I made for my sweet friend, Maureen. I also made the little gift box for her and filled it with a necklace I crafted just for her. I filled the red velvet with some homemade fudge filling and topped it with some yummy Mexican vanilla buttercream, Vahlrona chocolate and edible pearls. I also topped it with a little chocolate monogram. Of course, I had to send her home with a box full of cupcakes, too.

She is so special and has been an angel through some really rough times. Just love her. Happy Birthday, Maureen!

My Favorite Cream Cheese Pound Cake

Hi Sweet Readers! Here is a yummy pound cake I made yesterday. It's the best recipe...and the most interesting. The mixing is very specific and needs to be done precisely to get the perfect fine crumb. The crazy thing is that you put it in a cold oven to begin with and start the process at 200 degrees. From there, you increase the temperature by about 25 degrees at a time...cooking for differing times in between. Crazy, but worth it. So worth it.

My neighbor loves this cake and requested that I make it for her. I told her I would love to make her one for her birthday which is in a couple weeks. She couldn't wait! She said now. I had an appointment cancellation yesterday and she got her wish! Now if I could just get a bite....

Chocolate Mint and Chip Cupcake

These are some yummy chocolate mint and chip cuppies with mint buttercream. They were a request from a friend and for a birthday order and they smelled delicious! They did get some rave reviews! The frosting was yummy, but I didn't get a chance to eat the cake...next time!

French Macaroons

Last week, I met my hubby at a cute little french bakery downtown that we had been meaning to try for some time now. We had some very yummy french macaroons and when I got home, I was dying to make some. So, I did :) They were the first ones I have made and they could use some improvement in the technique and appearance, but I thought they were delicious. I filled them with a coffee cream and tinted them pink. I hope to make more soon, in other flavors. They are so delicate, yet they have incredible flavor.

Happy February, Sweet readers!

Update! See my August 11, 2009, post to see my improvement on these cookies! We've come a long way, baby!
